Dear Students, Parents & Guardians!

What a busy term 2! The month of Ramadan brought us many surprises and blessings. Each class enjoyed their little Ramadan surprises waiting for them between the lanterns in the corridors. Then, year 5 students Hamid and Hamza surprised all primary students with their traditional Ramadan Drummer performances. Soon it’s time to celebrate with families and friends the end of Ramadan.

Our excitement continues as we will have the RV FUN WEEK in the second week of term 3. Foundation to Year 6 students will be having many amazing and fun activities, competitions and prizes. Remember to get ready for the competitions during the school holiday. Please refer to the RV FUN WEEK Poster for more details.

We wish our students and families a wonderful Eid celebration and a safe school holiday.

Grade 6 Visit Melbourne’s Chinese Museum

On Friday 9th June 2017 the Grade 6’s visited Melbourne’s China Town and Chinese Museum.

During the day the students gained an overview of Chinese and Chinese-Australian history and culture.

The Finding Gold Gallery gave the students an introduction to life on the goldfields in the 1850s. In the Dragon Gallery, we learned about the powerful symbol of the Chinese dragon, the history of dragon parades in Australia and Melbourne’s unique role in reinstating processional dragons to post-Cultural Revolution China. The Gallery of Chinese Australians provided a unique insight into Chinese-Australian history over 160 years through to the present day.

Topics covered on the tour include: migration, identity, industry, fashion, traditional and ancient history and culture, food and medicine, racism in Australia, and the contribution of Chinese-Australians to Australian culture.

We were then lucky enough to take a guided tour exploring the oldest, continuously settled Chinatown in the Western world: Melbourne’s Chinatown precinct.

The many heritage-listed buildings in Little Bourke Street told the story of life for new arrivals in the 1850s – as a place to purchase supplies for the goldfields, to meet in the community club houses, to obtain traditional medicine from herbalists and to dine on traditional Chinese food. The tour had a focus on local Chinese culture and migrant identity.

We were also introduced to various aspects of the street culture, architecture and cuisine.

It was an exciting, interesting and thoroughly informative day. We all had a great time!

BULLIED by Aminah El-Omari

When you walk down THAT Path,
Your mind stops at Creativity,
Others say that you’re not capable but you know you are;
Others say you won’t succeed.
It’s hard to stop listening,
When you know there is a hidden trail
Of darkness behind that sunny curtain smile,
When you sit down your mind stops
At Inspiration,
You try to let it go but you can’t,
One Big Heartache.

Darkness

Blindness is like a sense of darkness,
It will haunt you for the rest of your life

The colour and light will fade away,
And not return the next day

There is no longer any beauty or happiness,
Instead you will be stuck in a world of nothing

It feels so sad and lonely,
Everything goes so slowly

But maybe one day,
Will be my chance to see
The world that was never explored by me

Light

Glowing in the night,
Shines so bright
Hidden by day,
Visible only at night

Some are big like the sun
Some are small like specks of dust
Some form shapes like the clouds in the sky
Others just shine

So free and alone,
Up, up high in the night sky

As the sun comes,
They disappear (like a rabbit in a hat at a magic show)
And reappear –
Preparing for their next big surprise
